테일러스위프트 the man 가사 해석

 

테일러스위프트의 신곡이 나왔다. 그동안 사이다 노래를 많이 썼던 그답게 이번 곡 역시 남자 경험이 많은 여성이라는 이유로 비난받고 자신의 성취보다 다른 외적인 부분들에 더 관심을 가지는 사회를 향해 한방을 날린다. the man은 남자가 되고 싶다는 것이 아닌 테일러스위프트가 자신의 성별이 남성이었다면 사회가 그녀의 가치를 더 인정해줬을 것이라는 가정이 담겨있는 곡이다.

외국 힙합을 들으면 많은 여성들과 잠자리를 가진 것을 마치 자랑거리마냥 가사에 써있다. 그런 곡들에 있어서는 가수의 인성과는 별개로 노래를 즐기면서 여성가수들에게만 무슨 책을 읽었는지(아이린은 요즘 무슨 책 읽냐는 질문에 82년생 김지영을 읽고 있다고 말했고 '페미니즘이 담겨있는 배스트셀러'를 읽었다는 이유로 욕을 먹었다. 그책을 읽은 다른 유명인사들은 아무런 비난도 받지 않았다.), 어떤 남자와 사귀는지에 대해 잣대를 들이밀고 그것을 작업물과 결부시키는지 이해가 안간다.

이 노래에서는 가정법이 정말 많이 사용된다. 가정법의 기본형태부터 가정법의 활용형태까지 다양한 가정법들을 익힐 수 있다. 

먼저 정석적인 가정법현재를 보자.

가정법 현재에서 If절이 생략되고 뒤에부분만 남는 경우가 흔한데 이노래에서도 그런 문장을 많이 볼 수 있다. (대괄호는 앞에 문장을 수식한다는 뜻으로 사용됐다.)

난 복잡한 사람이었을 거야 (If I was a man이 생략되었다.)

모든 정복들은 [내가 해낸] 만들었을 거야 나를 더 보스답게

그들은 손가락질 하며 내가 받는 대우들이 얼마나 마땅한지 질문하지 않았을거야. 

여기서 deserve는 상황이 안좋을 땐 자업자득이라는 표현으로 쓰고 좋은 상황일때는 그럴 가치가 있는, 그럴 가치를 받아 마땅한이라는 문맥으로 쓰인다.  deserve를 더 자세히 익혀보고 싶으면 아래 동영상이 큰 도움이 될 것이다.

그렇다면 이번에는 가정법이 심화된 문장들을 살펴보겠다. 심화라고 어려운 것이 아니라 그냥 가정법에 비교급이나 절들이 붙어서 문장이 길어진 것이다. 만약 당신이 이런 문장을 자유자재로 영작이 가능하다면 영어 고수니 이글을 읽지 않으셔도 된다.

궁금한 것은 만약 내가 거기에 있었을까 좀더 빨리 내가 남자였다면.

이걸 과거 분사라고 말하고 싶지 않다. To-v(to 부정사...)는 문장 맨앞에 쓰는 경우가 드물다. 그러니 동사를 맨앞에 쓰고 싶으면 동사에 ing을 붙이는 게 일반적이다 라고 이해하는게 훨씬 좋다.

 내가 입고 있는 것은 [만약 내가 무례하다해도] 별개로 봤을거야, 내 좋은 생각과 영향력과는

여기서 주어는 What I was wearing 이다. could는 주로 하고 싶은데 못할 가능성이 클때 쓰거나 혹은 옵션이 있을 때 그럴 수 있지 라는 might의 의미로 쓰인다. 여기선 가정법이니 전자의 의미로 쓰이고 있다. 

마지막으로 지긋지긋해, 진절머리나, 그거 때문에 힘들어 라는 말을 할때 자주쓰이는 동사구인

테일러 스위프트는 이전에 look what you made me to do 를 통해 

자주 연애상대를 바꾼다는 이유로 자신을 뱀이라고 하는 사람들에게 old 테일러는 죽었다고 하면서 그들을 비판했다.  그럼에도 여전히 대중들과 연예게는 그녀를 향해 질타와 비난들을 이어왔고.

테일러는 자신이 남성이었다면 과연 이런 일들이 일어났을까? 하며 의문을 던지고 있다.
